The Cynefin Framework is a sense-making tool developed by Dave Snowden that sorts a situation into domains defined by the relationship between cause and effect. Snowden insists it is a decision support framework, not a method or model: a way of determining which method or approach to adopt, and when to change it. In the ordered domains best or good practice applies; in the complex domain practice is emergent; in the chaotic domain it is novel. First published in Kurtz and Snowden (2003) and popularized in Snowden and Boone (2007).
